I dislike titles like this....it makes me heavily skeptical that if they cant come up with a good title that it must suck really bad. Snakes on a Plane sucked...but at least you had samuel l jackson...that is what this movie needed, it needed an injection of samuel l jackson to make it better.
Cowboys and Aliens is about...well just that...there really isnt much to this story. In fact there are a lot of glaring plot holes that exist that make it VERY difficult to suspend reality with this one. So many questions in my mind at every turn.
So let me start again, Cowboys and Aliens is about a lone cowboy (Daniel Craig] that wakes up with no memory and a nifty accessory on his left wrist that he cant seem to take off. He shows up at a town where apparently hes wanted...then aliens come to f*ck shit up and he happens to down one. Hilarity and writer hiatus ensues.....
So this also has Harrison Ford....and Olivia Wilde, which if I were them, would fire their agent after this. I think the biggest thing that made the movie better was Sam Rockwell and the dog, honestly. This is pretty much a very manly shoot em up flick with aliens thrown in. I dislike the combination very much as it doesnt really seem to fit well no matter how you attack it. There were a lot of things they stated that either made no sense or contradicted itself. Im very critical of this movie, I came in with a biased already and even though it was entertaining just as in a movie itself, I still thought it wasnt worthy of considering it a decent movie. I felt the sentimental parts were awkward at times and out of place. Characters were not developed enough for me to go "ok I feel bad for them."
Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 44% opening night with an audience rating of 69%. So you be the judge.....they could have named this anything else and spent less time on the animation and more time developing the mystery of the characters (which they ended up spearheading Daniel Craigs mystery some where along the way so they can just get the plot over with], it might have been considered a not so bad flick. They spent way too much time on the parts that dont matter and way little time on the parts that do. And yet again I have personal hatred for a typical movies about "us against the world" where everyone from timbuktu bans together against a common threat even though before then they just had zero respect for each other. If this was the real wild west, Daniel craig would have been shot the first scene because they thought he was the devil in disguise and they probably would have been pitching crosses at the aliens like cavemen...and I dont even think the word MACHINE was commonly used around that time either.
End Rant.
I pass this as a 5/1O. Decent action flick if you can completely suspend any common sense and ignore all plot holes that could have made this movie 1OO times better.
