Mail call is the highlight of the day for any deployed serviceman. So why not make an adventure out of sending something his way?
I've definately found in the past that making care packages was a great way for me to cope with the situation.
Here's a few tips I found a long time ago on the web, any comments, input, and ideas are greatly welcomed!!
---------------------------------------------------------
Before Sending:
Make sure to check out the current postal regulations: http://www.oconus.com/ZipCodes.asp
Send hygiene supplies separate so foods won’t be ruined!
Packaging:
I’ve found it useful to put lotions and soaps in a separate Ziploc bag, just in case it explodes prior to arrival!
Flat Rate Boxes – 9.80
Address exactly how the unit says.
You can use newspapers as fillers – that way they can read the papers and you don’t have to pay for the packaging peanuts.
Themes:
Game Night:
Playing Cards
Dice
Poker Chips
Peanuts
Drink Mix
Entertainment Weekly Magazine
Night at the Movies:
New DVD
Popcorn
Movie-Sized Candy (stay away from chocolates!)
Star-Shaped Anything
Paper Cups/Napkins with Stars
State Essentials:
Postcards from your state/town
Local Candies/Specialties
Pictures or Brochures of local landmarks
Local Newspapers or Magazines
Souvenir Pens/Pencils
Miniature Scrapbook of Home Town / Home State
Sports:
Peanuts
Sunflower Seeds
Cracker Jacks
Baseball Cards
Taped Games
Bubble Gum
Team Pennants/Memorabilia
Balls
Sports Magazines
Sweet Dreams:
Cookies
Hot Chocolate with Mini Marshmallows
Tea
Sleep Mask
Pillow Spray
Pillowcase and/or blanket that smells like you (You can even iron-on pictures to make it more personal!)

..takin it a day at a time.. (:

I did a carepackage all about me and sent it to him. Kind of Funny I thought it was hillarious and I was hoping to get a rile out of him.... Turned out he loved it more than any of the others.
I sent him simple things such as a bath poof (cause he used mine once) Travel sizes of my shampoo conditioner body wash a little pink towel. My favorite snacks and Candy and an Ipod with all of my "bath songs" and my favorite songs. And of course on a cold winter night you want to curl up with your blanket to a good movie so I sent him how to loose a guy in 10 days and I made him a fleece tie blanket. No lie him and his roommate love that movie and it has been watched way too many times.
In all honesty this was his favorite package.

When you love a soldier nothing can compare to the joy you fel when he is home, the pain you feel when he is gone, and the unconditional love and support you have for him.
Distance is not for the fearful it is for the bold, those who are willing to spend a lot of time alone in exchange for a little bit of time together. It is for those who know a good thing when they see it even if they do not see it nearly often enough.

I love doing care packages. I was about to send out my last care package for the deployment and he stopped me asking me for more things!
ALWAYS NEED WHITE T-SHIRTS, SOCKS AND BOXERS!!!
I am making mine as him coming back to Florida. I bought postcards, magnets of florida and took pictures of myself with them. I also bought an inflatable swimming ring saying to swim back home to me. haha. I love putting something silly in order to make him laugh or feel embarassed.

Hi everyone. I'm new here and I'm a proud Marine Corps wife with her husband in Iraq....
I didn't know if anyone knew this but if you go the the US postal service website and go to the packing and shipping stuff, you can order APO/FPO boxes, customs labels... just about anything you need (minus the packing peanuts) and it comes regular mail straight to your door! That way you aren't going to the post office, getting a box (or going to any other store really), taking it home, packing it, using that precious liquid gold called gas to take it back up to the post office and ship it off....
And best of all.... the boxes and labels and whatnot are all FREE!
The bad part about the boxes though is that you can only order them in packages of 10 and 25... I ordered the 25 because we both have large families and I know that they would like to send him stuff... and I'm almost done with all the boxes and my hubby's only been gone 6 weeks!
Just thought I'd share that with all of you!

| I'm new here but I was browsing a while back and saw something about getting pre-paid or free boxes to send care packages... I just didn't write down the number or anything and I'm going to be sending at least 10 boxes over to my husband in the next month. Unfortunately I'm not sure our budget can handle that and also the APO boxes are a little small... does anyone know what I am talking about??
