I know this movie is old, but its so relevant on whats happening now and in the near future. Ive been watching a lot of science shows lately and a lot of things we dream about are coming true. The flying car (YES, THERE IS A FRICKEN FLYING CAR!!!!!), genetic enhancements, the ability to regrow body parts, artificial intelligence, mixed reality simulators, the ability to read your mind as a highly advance lie detector, robots that resemble the ones in star wars (Those dang japanese!), etc, etc.
I really feel Gattaca is so close to a reality in these day and age. Gattaca is about a man that was born an in-valid, basically a natural birth human that was not genetically enhanced or altered in any way. His estimated death? 31 years old and from a high probability of heart failure.
All he wanted to do was go up in space and the only way to do that was to attend Gattaca. However it is not his grades that will let him in, but his genetics. Desperate for a solution, he hires a genetic broker to find some one that can help him get in and reach his goal.
This is a really beautiful and well played out movie. The tagline for this story is "there is no gene for the human spirit" and it just proves so well. I loved this and unfortunately I can see discrimination from the genetically superior to the genetically inferior. Humans always find a way to hurt or discriminate against others. Its happened throughout history...its really the motto of the aryan revolution actually (we are genetically superior!).
If you have never seen this movie, you should.
