Yeah, don't use clippers or other devices with sawing blades. The skin down there is thin and can be snapped up by clippers.
Some here will champion cream hair removers that are available in any drugstore. Look for the ones that say "for sensitive skin." And be sure to follow the instructions, which usually say to leave it on for 5-minutes or so and then remove it immediately---not doing so can irritate/burn your skin.
But I think most guys prefer to use a multi-blade safety razor. The Mach3 is my preference. If you give the hair just a bit of soaking and/or shaving cream to get it wet, then remove it so you can see what you're doing and shave away. Nicking is hard to do, unless you have some pimples there or something. Pull the skin tight and the razor should glide easily over the skin, and you can repeat it periodically to keep it as you like it. Have never had a nicking issue with a multi-blade razor and some common sense shaving technique.

I shave completely 2 or 3 times a week. Itchy at first just like any other body part is. I also shave my armpits. And also my asshole. Main benefit is less smell - hair is a real stink magnet. Second is feel, skin to skin contact during sex is GREAT! Third is looks and oral pleasure, she likes the looks and will blow me more without all the messy hair.
Use a ladies shaver, one designed for her legs, they have tiny wires that run perpendicular to the blades and keeps skin from getting pinched between the blades and therefor getting cut. I just use soap as a lubricant. Highly recommended.

I'm not a guy, but have often heard men (my male friends) say that if you shave against the grain so to speak...it's a bit easier?
Meaning, shave in the opposite direction of the hair that is growing.
Not downwards. I could be wrong.
When I shave, I shave upwards. Much easier and less accidents.

I wouldn't use soap- it will dry your skin.
Use a moisturizing shaving cream, or else use a really good soap. I use a kind of soap made from olives. Very moisturizing, and it doesn't have perfume or any added scent, so you won't smell like a girl.
If you are a really hairy guy, you ought to use scissors to trim the pubes before you shave them. After that, you can use the razor. As for your legs, always shave in the opposite direction just like Hellya said. Go slowly and you won't cut yourself. Just be extra careful around the ankle and knee. You'll get better at it the more you do it. I remember cutting myself a few times when I was a teen.
And by the way, I wouldn't use a woman's razor. They aren't as sharp as men's razors. I always use a man's razor.
