Hey girls-
I was just wondering if you know of any good books that are for military girlfriends/spouses? Like...maybe advice books or just inspirational? I looked the bookstore over, but I didn't see any. Thanks a lot- Mackenzie

What's meant to be will always find a way

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

I have to agree on the Chicken Soup for the Military Wife's Soul book....it made me cry on most of the stories but I enjoyed it!

----------
"Military relationships are the product of many tears born both in happiness and despair, nights alone wondering where he is, if he's safe. It's looking at pictures, knowing that's the only way I can see his face, calling my voicemail to hear his voice, and not washing his clothes until they've lost his scent.
But it's all worth it in the end, because I know I have one of the purest loves in the world because my Soldier truly knows the meaning of Honor, Courage, and Commitment, not only to the U.S. Army, but to me. And that makes everything worthwhile."

Hey great idea!! I'll pick some of those up over the summer (when I'm finished with the million books I have to read for class!!! haha)

I don't have any suggestion for military wives specifically, BUT I do know of a GREAT book that EVERYONE should read (send it to your men when you're done!!)
It's called Flags of Our Fathers by James Bradley (He's from WISCONSIN!!! GO CHEESE!) It's a TRUE story!
Basically, this guy always kind of knew that his dad was part of something special during WWII, and he thinks it's a flag raising at Iwo Jima, but didn't really find out details until the family found a box of war "memories" after the father had passed away. Bradley then goes on a passionate search to find out ALL about the 6 (or 7???) men in the picture -- basically, he wants to find out how those men got to Iwo Jima, where were they from and where they ended up after the war.
This book is amazing, mostly because Bradley is SO PASSIONATE to find out the answers to his question. This isn't a book he HAD to write -- it was something he wanted to do, and it shows! I cried, laughed, and thought a lot while I read the book. I've given out FOUR copies of this book as gifts and everyone has loved it (and they're not all history geeks like me, either!) Especially if your guy is a Marine, this will make him proud to be a marine! :-)
lol.. I feel like I'm on a commercial now so I'll stop!! :-D Lemme know if you've read or will read the book! :-)

Thank You!

Amanda - That sounds like a great read. I'll have to pick that one up for when classes are finished. Only 4 more and I'll be done! Can't wait to read for fun again...Oh, I wish I could remember the name of this book my dad gave me to read when I was in hs. It was about the Sullivan brothers - 5 brothers on the same ship in WWII. It's a sad story, but a good bit of history...

My husband was deployed recently and during his mob. we had huge marital problems-my fault- I would HIGHLY reccommend The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian to anyone who my be having problems. I have seen such a change in myself and our relationship. I don't know if we would still be together if it wasn't for this book.

Even if you aren't having problems it may open your eyes to some different aspects of marriage.

It was inexpensive $10.00 and only around 200 pages. It is definately worth a read.

They also have The Power of a Praying Husband.

For Children - Night Catch by Brenda Ehrmantraut.
My 3 year old angel loves to read this while my other angel is away "at work". It's about a son and father who are separated by deployment. They use the North Star to play catch at night. Wonderful book and it was easy for a 2 year old to understand. Plus it rhymes and has beautiful illustrations.
Happy Reading!

When my husband deployed I bought just about every book that I could find on deployments and a military marriage. I also bought myself and my husband the Power of Praying books because I thought it might help us through this difficult time apart. Here are some of the ones that I've read besides the ones that were already mentioned.

Married to the Military by Meredith Leyva
HomeFires - War through the eyes of a military wife by Sherry Hines
Under the Sabers by Tanya Biank (this is the one the Lifetime TV show was based off of)
E-mail to the Front by Alesia Holliday

I hope this helps...
